This Gown For Hire.
Renting Clothes for Speical Occasions.
Union station ( ) and Vow to Be Chic ( ) lease bridesmaid dresses in a range of colors and sizes for $50 to $99 for several days, meaning you can say "I don't" to purchasing a $300 frock you'll never wear again. There's even one site, Borrowing Magnolia ( floral print bridesmaid dresses ), that rents out wedding gowns, though there's less wiggle room on styles and sizes.
If you're a wedding guest (or gala goer) you can hire out a designer ballgown or cocktail outfit via Rent The Runaway ( ). Recent rental deals included a Marchesa Notte navy netting cocktail dress for $100-$120 (retail, $795) and a Badgley Mischka floral gown for $155 -$175 (retail $1,190).
A few things to know: Read the fine print on damage and replacement fees. Some places have liberal policies but others do not; Rent The Runway even offers minor-damage insurance for $5.
Also, give yourself plenty of lead time. Some popular dresses can be booked months in advance during wedding season, or prom time in the spring.
And check the time terms of the rental. Many sites aimed at special events ship you the clothes for four to eight days, others let you keep things until you feel like returning them. --- Summer 2017.
